Moving to Greenville, SC
Updated: Sep 16, 2019
We've done it! My husband and I are officially Greenvillians.. Greenvillites? Whatever you call it, that's us!
I had been hinting at moving for a few months on the Simply Marie Photography instagram page, and over Thanksgiving the move finally happened! If you want to hear more about why we moved and why it was such a big deal for us (created Simply Marie Photography out of it), keep reading!
My Life Pre-Greenville
I'm actually a born-and-raised Midwestern (oh didn't cha know?). Wisconsinite, to be exact. I grew up there, went to school in the Midwest, and after 23 years I decided I was kind of over the cold. That's when my husband and I packed our bags, said our "good-bye's" and ventured alllll the way down to a charming little city called Charleston, SC.
There I met an amazing person and friend, Jackie! She and I created a photography company together from the ground up in 2013 called Southern Vintage Photography. We worked hard at our photography company (on top of still having full-time jobs) for over five years, and I'm so happy to say that it's still thriving today! Jackie is rocking it, and I'd totally recommending checking SVP out if you're in the lowcountry!
While Charleston is amazing, and beautiful, and everything a city should be... my husband and I missed hiking and camping and not sitting in stand-still traffic at 5pm. He got a surprising job offer last fall in the upstate and our worlds turned upside down. A quick three months after the offer we moved to Greenville and now call it home! As I expect you can imagine, the major downside to moving three hours away was having to say goodbye to my friends, comfort, and of course Jackie and the company we built together! Our 2018 was a big year with plenty of changes, but we like adventure and knew we'd be back in Charleston often to see friends and shoot some weddings!
Making it Official
So, what did I do when I got the news we were moving? I went hard to work on building a new photography company from scratch again, joined a bunch of groups to network and continue to build relationships, and did a lot of exploring and familiarizing to make Greenville feel like home as quickly as possible. I'm still exploring (there's a lifetime worth here) and can't wait for the weather to get a little warmer to take some clients into the mountains!
We didn't know anyone upon moving here and we have only visited the area a handful of times, so we were both a little nervous for this new journey. Thankfully, this city is very welcoming and has a lot of great networking opportunities (and an abundance of cute coffee shops)!
So there you have it. My husband and I are Greenville newbies in every way possible! I'm so excited to capture some photos in the area and meet new clients! There are so many beautiful parks, mountains, and don't get me started on how fun downtown is! I'd love to be your new photographer in the Upstate!
